SCHOOL HIGHLIGHT: State College Area School District- Plans for 2020-21 School Year

It's the start of the school year and many students and families are excited to be back. Students and parents have been preparing for the possibility of closed schools & switching completely to remote learning.  

Each school has created a Health and Safety Plan which serves as the local guidelines for all instructional and non-instructional school reopening activities. SCASD has a Pandemic Health and Safety plan on their website for the public to view.

State College Area School District is top-rated and the high school educates approximately 2,500 students in grades 9-12. The high school has over 400 academic and vocational courses & varieties for every child.

SCHOOL HIGHLIGHT: Philipsburg Osceola Senior High School

Located less than a half an hour from State College and Penn State in the quaint borough of Philipsburg, Philipsburg Osceola Senior High School is the sole high school in the Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District.

The district is one of seven school districts in Centre County. It’s bordered by Tyrone and Bald Eagle school districts to the south, and Moshannon, Clearfield, and West Branch school districts in neighborhing Clearfield County.

About 600 of the district’s 1,900 pupils attend the school, which covers 9th through 12th grade.

SCHOOL HIGHLIGHT: Bellefonte Area High School

Bellefonte Area School High School, the sole high school in Bellefonte Area School District, is located in the county seat of Bellefonte, about 20 minutes east of State College. This mid-sized, generally rural school district serves nearly 1,000 students in grades 9 through 12, and employs about 70 teachers. That gives the school a 14:1 student-teacher ratio – higher than the national average for public schools.

Students are exposed to a rigorous academic schedule, with all students required to take classes in math, English, social studies, science, physical education, health, driver education theory and personal finance. Additionally, students can opt for a variety of AP classes, which are spread across the school’s course catalogue.

From classroom learning to advanced career training, Bald Eagle Area High School offers comprehensive educational opportunities for a variety of students.

Located less than 30 minutes from State College and Penn State, the high school is the flagship school in the Bald Eagle Area School District. The joint middle-high school enrolls about 950 students in grades 6 through 12, and employs almost 70 teachers.

School Highlight: Spring Creek Elementary

Spring Creek Elementary School is one of eight elementary schools located in the State College Area School District. Opened in the fall of 2019, this new facility combines the old Lemont and Houserville elementary schools into a modern, 71,486-square-foot building, perfectly designed for education in the 21st Century.

Over 350 students in kindergarten through fifth grade attend this state-of-the-art school, which utilizes 67 faculty and staff members. It's located in the community of Houserville at 217 Scholl Street, State College, a less than 10-minute drive from Penn State's campus.

Designed to be LEED gold certified, the building is equipped with solar panels that will produce at minimum 15 percent of the electricity it uses. Water and energy usage will also be lower than a similarly sized non-LEED certified school.
